HKUST Signs MoU with Wisers for Business and Social Issue Research Using Massive All-Media Big Data and AI

The School of Business and Management of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) today signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Wisers Information Limited (Wisers). This new collaboration brings together experts in data science, machine learning, business and social science research, as well as a leader in all-media big data smart business intelligence solutions, to develop timely insights applicable to business and social problems.

 

The partnership between the two parties will establish a platform for joint research and technology development opportunities relating to applications of all-media big data and emerging technologies for current business and social issues. This will also include public policy research projects, a joint HKUST-Wisers Research Program on Social Impact, knowledge exchange between HKUST academic staff and Wisers experts, and learning and career opportunities for students.

 

Prof. TAM Kar Yan, Dean of HKUST Business School, says: “With our newly established Center for Business and Social Analytics (CBSA), we are very pleased to collaborate with Wisers - a leading intelligence expert in the region, to generate new business and social insights from analyzing real-world and emerging big data on the Internet and beyond.”

Leading the collaboration from HKUST are Prof. HUI Kai Lung, Associate Dean for Research and Director of CBSA; Prof. Allen HUANG, Associate Professor of Accounting; and Prof. TANG Wenfang at the Division of Social Science in the School of Social Science and Humanities. The expert team from HKUST underscores the value of interdisciplinary knowledge and the role of technology in in producing novel business and social insights that complement conventional studies such as industry surveys or opinion polls.

 

Leading the collaboration from Wisers are Ms. Denise CHE and Dr. HE Chao, Head of Artificial Intelligence, Vice President, who will both serve on the CBSA advisory board and bring knowledge, experience, data and tools in artificial intelligence and big data analytical applications, and contribute to the research and result dissemination from the industry perspective.
